The Evaluation of Project Need is a 56 page report that was produced in June 1992, and it serves to document the need for the Woodhaven Extension Project.

  • According to this report, various improvements are needed to:
    Relieve Congestion along Byberry Road
    d
    Improve Air Quality
    d
Facilitate Travel for Local and Regional Traffic*
Improve the Quality of Life for Local Residents
    Replace the CSX Bridge
    Improve Emergency Vehicles Response Time
  • The improvement to: "Facilitate Travel for Local and Regional Traffic" would be provided by the new extension. In PENNDOT's traffic scenario: Regional traffic would be diverted onto the extension - removing it from Byberry Road, which would only serve local traffic - and then, in essence accordig to the plan, the Woodhaven extension would be separating regional traffic from local traffic.
  • Scroll down to the grey box to read how the objective of the extension is to separate regional from local traffic.

In Our Opinion

  • The construction of the new extension to Bustleton Avenue, whether it be regional traffic or local traffic would worsen conditions by introducing additional traffic as well as creating another intersection in an already congested area.
